The clocks have changed, November’s darker evenings have set in….the perfect excuse to curl up on the couch with a binge worthy series in the evenings.

Anyone who has welcomed a newborn into the world knows that the days and hours can be wonderful but also overwhelming. The frequency of waking and feeding on a newborn schedule can be intense! Having drinks organised (to keep hydrated) and a couple of series to binge watch will provide some much needed light relief and company for those late night feeds. Read on for our (enjoyably researched!) top-picks.

2021’s New Releases

Halston (Netflix)

The life of Roy Halston Frowick portrayed by Ewan McGregor. Halston skyrockets to fame after Jackie Kennedy wore his pillbox hat during her husband’s inauguration. His glamorous lifestyle is portrayed as he builds his empire and makes his mark on the fashion industry but his demons and troubles are always present. With mixed reviews as to the accuracy, this series definitely receives our vote as binge worthy.

The Morning Show (Apple TV +)

Season 2 has been released and although it pales in comparison to season 1 in our eyes, it is certainly worthy of mentioning if only for the wardrobes of Jennifer Anniston & Reece Witherspoon alone. Perfect for a late evening feed.

Maid (Netflix)

Inspired by Stephanie Land’s memoir, Maid. Hard work, low pay and a mother’s will to escape domestic violence and to make a better life for herself and her daughter. An emotive subject which would be best kept for your stronger days but the overall take home message is inspiration as ‘Alex’ navigates the government systems in the US and ultimately triumphs.

Succession (Sky)

Season 3 has just been released. The critically acclaimed HBO series is back- the comedy of power and dysfunction that follows the Roy family’s Machiavellian power moves. A compelling watch and Season 3 maintains the characters and the season doesn’t miss a beat. Indulge yourself!

Our top picks for new Mums

If you’re lucky enough not to have seen these yet, you’re in for a treat. Not shows we’d necessarily have given much credence to before we had children but there’s a whole new humour to be enjoyed afterwards. Anything that provides some light relief and sheds normality on survival of motherhood is a winner with us!

Motherland (Netflix)

Such a funny portrayal of the school gate dynamic and the struggles of parents whose partners absent themselves from the childcare routines. They navigate playdate politics and strive for some self-care…definitely worth watching.

Workin’ Moms (Netflix)

Maternity leave is over and it's time for these four ‘moms’ in their 30’s to return to work while navigating kids, bosses, love and life in modern-day Toronto. There are 5 seasons and each episode is 30 minutes long. This comedy is hilarious while also dealing with the real struggles ‘Moms’ face returning to the work place after maternity leave. A must watch from us.

Catastrophe (Channel 4 & Amazon Prime)

A one-week-stand resulted in an accidental pregnancy; this hilarious series features a couple who are never shy about expressing all of their emotions. Sharon Horgan & Rob Delaney’s portrayal of how life changes with children and how partners navigate their own relationship in this transition is funny and light. Episodes are short so they suit perfectly to accompany a feed.

Schitt’s Creek (Netflix)

Most of us have lavished on this fantastic show created by father-son duo Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy. If you haven’t, it is light, laugh-out-loud inducing and the perfect episode length for late night feeds. Worthy of many replays for those of us who have already binged on the show and for those who haven’t, you’re in for 6 seasons of laughter. The ultimate pick me up no matter what sort of day you are having. Hard to beat!
